Lucas Jussen
At the age of nine, Lucas Jussen made his debut as a soloist with Camerata Amsterdam in the Great Hall of Het Concertgebouw. Like his younger brother Arthur, he studied with Jan Wijn, Ton Hartsuiker and Portuguese master pianist Maria João Pires. He continued his studies with Menahem Pressler in the United States and with Dmitri Bashkirov in Madrid. In season 2015-2016, Lucas was artist in residence with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra|Netherlands Chamber Orchestra.
Both together and alone, the brothers gave numerous recitals, including in The Concertgebouw's Master Pianists series, as well as at the Wigmore Hall, Tonhalle Zurich and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.
They worked with almost all Dutch orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and several times the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra. Outside of these, they performed with orchestras such as the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic and the Mozarteumorchester during the Salzburg Festival. Extensive tours took them to Japan, China and South Korea.
Uniquely, the Jussen brothers' contract with the Deutsche Grammophon label earned their debut CD platinum and an Edison Classical Audience Award within a short time. Their CD of Mozart double concertos was dubbed "among the 50 best recordings of Mozart ever made" by trade magazine The Gramophone.
