Marc Albrecht

Marc Albrecht is in demand worldwide as a conductor of the German-Austrian late Romantic repertoire and a recognised expert in contemporary music. His work with large ensembles is rooted in a chamber music approach; he has a special understanding of how to make the symphonic sound blend transparently with the intimacy of the chamber orchestra. In the 2024/25 season, guest conducting appearances take Marc Albrecht to the opera houses of Berlin, Cologne, Amsterdam, Tokyo, and Geneva. Symphonic highlights of the previous season included invitations to the symphony orchestras of RAI Turin, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Oslo Philharmonic, Orquestra Gulbenkian Lissabon, and Philharmonia Zürich. His musical focus is on works by Richard Wagner (such as Lohengrin, Rheingold, Tristan, and Holländer) as well as Richard Strauss (including Sinfonia Domestica, Alpine Symphony, Zarathustra, Elektra, Salome, and Frau ohne Schatten, among others). His artistic work has received numerous accolades. In October 2021, he was chosen as OPUS KLASSIK’s ‘Conductor of the Year’, in 2020 he received the appointment as ‘Knight of the Order of the Dutch Lion’ as well as the ‘Prix d'Amis’ award of the Dutch National Opera. In 2019, he was named ‘Conductor of the Year’ by the International Opera Awards. In addition, during his tenure as chief conductor, the Dutch National Opera was named Europe's ‘Opera House of the Year’ in 2016
