Re-Mix Orchestra
The Re-Mix Orchestra is the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra's youth orchestra, which meets twice a year to work on a playlist of improvised creations across all genres.
Are you itching to play together and enjoy the spotlight? Then the Re-Mix Orchestra is definitely for you. During musical workshops, youngsters aged 12 to 26 work together with orchestra members of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra on their own creations under the guidance of London-based all-round musician and coach Paul Griffiths. Djembés and guitars, harmonicas and flutes, violins and alto horns: we'll throw everything that sounds together and give it a whirl! Being able to read notes is not a requirement, as the youngsters create their own music.

Summer project
During the workshop week in summer, they will work intensively towards a playlist that will be shown to the general public on Sint-Jansplein in Antwerp. For the summer project, Marieke Van Ransbeeck is guest of honour on the project. She proves with a mix of baroque, folk and pop that the bagpipe is the ideal instrument to add extra colour to the remix playlist.
XXL project
With Re-Mix XXL, the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra gives every Antwerper a musical voice. In addition to the orchestra band of the Re-Mix Orchestra, we invite various organisations to share the stage with us. In total, 300 singers and 50 orchestra members will give the best of themselves in the Queen Elisabeth Hall. This is the grand community project of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. Re-Mix XXL creates a meeting place for professional and amateur musicians, for young people and adults, and for people from different cultures and social backgrounds. For Re-Mix XXL [2018x 2600] in 2024, the orchestra unites young and old from Antwerp South (2018) and Antwerp Berchem (2600).
The Re-Mix Orchestra orchestra band also plays each year. Material rehearsed during the summer workshop often returns during this XXL version. Conductor and artistic director Paul Griffiths gets the best out of all participants. Moreover, you will again receive support from musicians of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.
