Freek De Craecker
Freek graduated in 2019 as an actor and theatre maker at the School of Arts KASK Ghent in the Master Drama. He is a physical actor who makes theatre from an absurd and childishly honest perspective. Aspects in his research are growing up and finding a place in a world that puts you under pressure, both through social media, achievement drives and ecological catastrophes, but also masculinity and gender norms. He transforms these seemingly heavy themes into a playful and open form, using the media we also use in our daily lives.
Currently Freek is touring internationally with Miet Warlop's performance After All Springville and also with Kladderadatsch, a performance for children from 4Hoog. Before that, he performed Stekeblind in collaboration with Frans Van der Aa and Raf Walschaerts. Afterwards, he created and performed his own family show Bla Bla Blues together with 4Hoog colleague Femke Platteau.
Freek is also part of the young makers and players collective Camping Sunset, where he featured in Happiness, Ten Oorlog II and Ten Oorlog III. In 2021, he performed in Ariadne auf Naxos, a concert opera by Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Nachtzwemmen, a performance on nightlife by Lieselot Siddiki & Jarne Van Loon and Fun Loving Humans by Simon D'Huyvetter and Kopergieterij.
Other performances he played in were Bosh Beach by Kris Verdonck/A Two Dogs Company, HALL05 by TAAT, The Common People by Jan Martens/Lukas Dhont, the Bij de Buren project for underprivileged children at De Vieze Gasten and he played a few roles for television including in D5R. As a theatre coach and drama teacher, Freek worked for Larf!, Kopergietery, 't Scheldenoffensief, Wildtgroei and Academie De Poel Gent. He made the performance We All Go Rhythm with the young adults of Wildtgroei.
