Love and lyricism with Kevin John Edusei

The work of the late-romantic composer Zemlinsky is often likened to Mahler’s symphonies. In his Lyric Symphony, two soloists (a baritone and a soprano) accompany a large orchestra during seven connected movements. A master orchestrator, Ravel used an abundance of orchestral tone colours in his poetic compositions. At the request of the Russian impresario Sergei Diaghilev, he composed music for a new ballet, called Daphnis and Chloé. Ravel later extracted two suites from the full score. His Suite No. 2 essentially reprises three scenes from the original ballet, which was inspired by the ancient Greek tale of the star- crossed lovers who are finally reunited after many trials and tribulations.
