A journey to Italy with Giacomo Puccini and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. In Crisantemi – Italian for 'chrysanthemums' – Puccini masterfully expresses his feelings of mourning and loss after the death of his friend, the Duke of Savoy. Fragments from this short string quartet later found their way into his opera Manon Lescaut. Tchaikovsky reveals his sunny side in Souvenir de Florence, a lyrical reminiscence of his time in the Italian city. Incorporating Russian melodies and rhythms, it stands as his most famous chamber music piece. Concluding the Elisabeth Weekend 2025 in the intimate setting of AMUZ, central guest Hayoung Choi, leaders of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, and musicians from the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel present this evocative chamber music program.
