Once again, he presents Mahler's Fifth Symphony, a work he intimately knows from his acclaimed complete recordings with the Minnesota Orchestra. The Fifth marks a turning point in Mahler's oeuvre, transitioning from the 'Wunderhorn' symphonies and bidding farewell to Romanticism, paving the way for the abstraction of his later works. Mahler described his Fifth as the expression of a man in full daylight, reaching the climax of his life. Initially misunderstood, time proved him right. Today, the Fifth Symphony, especially the fiery Adagietto, resides deeply in the hearts of many.
