Antwerp’s St. Charles Borromeo Church, a baroque gem in the heart of the city, traditionally serves as the magnificent backdrop for the Antwerp Symphony’s Christmas concerts. The orchestra will be performing music to warm the heart, that is completely in tune with this majestic location, under the baton of baroque expert Christian Curnyn. Czech musician Jan Dismas Zelenka, a friend of J.S. Bach, was one of the leading composers of his era. In his Hipocondrie à 7 Concertanti, he continually spans the gamut of some very different emotions, just like Jean-Philippe Rameau in his Les Boréades. Of course, no Christmas concert would be complete without one of J.S. Bach’s compositions: the star of his famous Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 is the clavichord. Kick off the holiday season with some Baroque splendour!
