World creation by Annelies Van Parys

Commissions from the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and the Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam, rave reviews from the Financial Times among others and several awards: Annelies Van Parys is one of Belgium’s leading composers. At the request of the Antwerp Symphony, she composed a new piano concerto for master pianist Jan Michiels (a laureate of the 1991 Queen Elisabeth Piano Competition). In addition to this unique world premiere, the orchestra will also perform Luciano Berio’s Sinfonia. Together with the HYOID vocal ensemble, popular guest conductor Martyn Brabbins will lead the orchestra in this whirling musical tour de force, which is rarely performed and which is simply teeming with quotes from works by such composers as Mahler, Ravel, Debussy and Beethoven.
