Mahler and Brahms
Gustav Mahler doesn’t always require a gigantic orchestra
with choir, hammers and bells to make an impression. The single remaining (and alas incomplete) piece of instrumental chamber music by the barely sixteen-year-old student leaves an equally poignant impression. In part, this is probably to the credit of Johannes Brahms: his magnificent Piano Quartet No. 1 set the tone for everything written in the genre from that point on. The marvellous interior of AMUZ sets the perfect backdrop for this chamber music concert with two masterpieces for piano, violin, viola and cello.
