The Impressionist composers wrote stunning, dreamy music that takes your breath away. Debussy’s beautiful Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune conjures up sensuous, colourful images of a dreamy, sun-drenched afternoon. Alexander Scriabin, who has also been likened to a Russian impressionist, explored combinations of sound and colour in his compositions. His Piano Concerto in F sharp minor, interpreted for the occasion
by sensitive virtuoso Bertrand Chamayou, effortlessly competes with the more famous concertos of other Russian composers. Prokofiev, finally, composed his most famous symphony during World War II, in praise of the free and happy man.
