Europalia españa is a celebration, and this concert by the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra is no exception. Under the baton of Juanjo Mena, with cellist Asier Polo and mezzo-soprano Lidia Vinyes Curtis, you’re invited to bask in the warmth of southern music. Rodrigo’s Concierto in modo galante conjures the charm of old Spain, while Sánchez- Verdú’s world premiere, inspired by the songbook of Joanna of Castile and Philip the Handsome, bridges Spain and Flanders musically. The evening concludes on an intimate and romantic note with Schumann.
