The Goldberg Variations are surely one of the most honoured variation series ever written. Almost 300 years ago, Johann Sebastian Bach needed little more than a brief little theme to compose 30 insanely inventive and complex variations. The mythical status of this tour de force inspired the American composer Arthur Frackenpohl to write an arrangement for brass quintet that won an Echo Klassik Award in 2002. The musicians of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra take it upon themselves to offer a surprising take of Bach’s iconic work.
