Chamber music: Histoire du soldat
In the run-up to Armistice Day, members of the Antwerp Symphony will perform one of Stravinsky’s most remarkable compositions. His Histoire du Soldat or Soldier’s Tale, which dates from 1918 – the year in which World War I ended –, is both moving and exciting, bawdy and high spirited, especially when a talented narrator like Bart Moeyaert tells the story of the Faustian pact between a soldier and the Devil. Together with seven musicians, Moeyaert performs his Dutch-language version of this undisputed highlight in Stravinsky’s career in the magnificent setting of AMUZ.
